Where is Naomi?

Where is Naomi?

Run run, the big bad wolf is coming. Where will you hide.

Nothingness engulfs her.

There was once a china doll, pretty and as fragile as she looked. She stared at you with the sun in her eyes. She was a brave china doll, she always wanted to play with the stuffed dolls and wooden dolls on the mantel. She was warned over and over that she was as fragile as… well, a china doll so she was excluded from the fun activities. And because she was the rarest china doll to exist, her owners did not want to lose her. They cleaned her everyday and you could see the full gleam of the moonlight on her every night. She shined, she shines.

One day, her owners brought home a cat. Now cats love shiny things, they love to play with pretty things. The house owners warned the cat to keep away from their most precious china doll but the cat was instantly fascinated. He’d stare at the china doll all day and all night with a glint in his eyes. Then on a particularly bright moonlight, the cat hopped on the mantel and sauntered toward the china doll. “You're pretty, I want to play with you”, said the cat. The china doll excitedly gleamed at the cat and said, “I'd love to be your play thing”. Now, I know what you’re thinking, cats tend to be temperamental so this was a risky move for the china doll. The cat grinned a most Cheshire grin and tapped the china doll. But to the china doll’s surprise, that was all the cat did before it hopped off the mantel.

The next night, the cat hopped on the mantel yet again, and sauntered toward the china doll. “You're shiny, I want to play with you”, said the cat with his cheshire grin. The china doll glowed with the brightest smile and said, “I'd love to be your play thing”. Yet again, much to the surprise of the china doll, the cat taps her and hops off the mantel. Now you’re thinking, what is this cat up to? After all, he admired the china doll and found her completely fascinating. A cat is a cat at the end of the day, and a cat will do what cats do.

For a couple of nights, the cat repeated this odd behaviour much to the amusement of the china doll. She began to look forward to his company, and welcomed him with an excited gleam every single time. Poor china doll, you’re too precious to trust a cat.

On a particularly bright full moon, the cat as usual hopped on the mantel, but this time, he didn’t move toward the china doll, instead he stared and purred, “will you be my play thing?”. Now this was a different question coming from the cat, and the doll was stunned for a second before excitedly saying, “yes, I will”. This response made the cat giddy and he gave his most Cheshire grin yet, a grin so wide he looked like a giant smile. For the first time, the china doll noticed his grin for what it was… malicious. But before she could cry for help, the cat sauntered over to her one final time and gave her the most gentle tap and purred.

Now you’re falling. The china doll found herself toppling over, it happened in slow motion… felt like she was falling for a year but it only took a second. For the last time the moonlight caught the glint in the china dolls eyes as she fell and fell. There was a loud smash, she had broken into a million pieces, never to be put back again. Up on the mantel the cat, with his most wicked grin, watched as the sun went out of her eyes. He purred, licked his paws and hopped off the mantel.

Be careful Naomi, you’re falling.
